What is Filtration Engineering

From Suspended Solids to Ultrapure Water — One Discipline

Filtration engineering covers the removal of suspended solids, dissolved salts, colloids, organics, and ionic species from water — using physical barriers (membranes) or chemical exchange (ion exchange resins). The technology selected depends entirely on what needs to be removed and the quality of water required at the outlet.

Ultrafiltration (UF) removes suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, and colloidal matter — producing water with SDI <3 suitable as RO feed, STP recovery water, or general process water. Reverse Osmosis (RO) removes dissolved salts and organics — achieving TDS reductions of 95–99% for applications ranging from boiler feed water to drinking water. Demineralisation (DM) Plants use strong acid and base ion exchange resins to produce mineral-free water for power, pharma, and precision industrial use. Mixed Bed Polishers combine both resin types in a single vessel to achieve ultrapure water — conductivity <0.1 µS/cm — as the final polishing stage before critical process use.

Pervel has been delivering filtration systems since 2008 — from a 6-site RO network for BHEL across Trichy, Thirumayam, and Ranipet to 35 MLD UF plants for L&T, 500 KLD drinking water RO in Naidupetta, and ultrapure water systems for THK's robotic board manufacturing process. In-house fabrication of pressure vessels, skids, and chemical dosing assemblies is standard on all projects.

4 Filtration Technologies

Each technology operates at a different removal scale — from micron-level suspended solids to ionic dissolved species. Pervel selects and integrates the right system based on feedwater quality and product water requirement.

Reverse Osmosis System
RO

Reverse Osmosis (RO)

High-pressure membrane filtration that removes dissolved salts, organics, and microorganisms — achieving TDS reductions of 95–99%. Applied across drinking water, boiler feed, process water, ZLD pre-treatment, and pharma pre-treatment. Single-pass, double-pass, and 2-stage configurations sized to application. Pervel has delivered RO systems from 1,000 LPH (IOCL, 2011) to 240 KLD (Kevin Care, 2022).

Ultrafiltration System
UF

Ultrafiltration (UF)

Hollow-fibre or spiral-wound membrane systems that remove suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, and colloidal matter at 0.01–0.1 µm pore size — without chemicals. UF produces SDI <3 water ideal as pre-feed to RO, or as standalone treated water for STP recovery, drinking water, and industrial process water. Pervel has delivered UF systems from 40 KLD (PSG College, 2010) to 35 MLD (Thalchar Chemicals, L&T, 2022).

DM Plant — Demineralisation
DM Plant

DM Plant

Two-bed demineralisation using strong acid cation (SAC) and strong base anion (SBA) ion exchange resins to remove dissolved mineral ions — producing water with conductivity <10 µS/cm and near-zero hardness. Essential for boiler feed water, cooling tower makeup, power plant applications, and as a pre-stage to Mixed Bed polishing. Pervel has integrated DM Plants in multi-stage systems for Rucha Engineering (2019–22), Nilkamal (2020), and THK (2021).

Mixed Bed

Mixed Bed Polisher

A single pressure vessel containing an intimate mixture of SAC and SBA resins — functioning as a series of thousands of theoretical demineralisation stages. Mixed Bed Polishers deliver ultrapure water with conductivity <0.1 µS/cm and resistivity >10 MΩ·cm, used as the final polishing stage before boiler turbine feed, microelectronics, robotic manufacturing (THK, Sricity), or pharmaceutical pre-treatment. Regenerated using separate acid and base cycles.

Why Pervel

What Sets Our Filtration Systems Apart

20+ years of membrane and ion exchange experience, in-house fabrication, and a track record with India's largest industrial names.

🏭

In-house Fabrication

Pressure vessels, RO/UF skids, chemical dosing assemblies, interconnecting piping, and structural frames fabricated at Pervel's Chennai facility. Quality controlled before dispatch — not sourced from third parties.

⚙️

System Integration

Filtration systems are rarely standalone. Pervel designs RO + DM + Mixed Bed chains, UF + RO combinations, and pre-treatment + membrane + post-treatment as a single integrated scope — no interface gaps.

📐

Sized to Feedwater

Every system is sized from actual feedwater analysis — SDI, TDS, hardness, chlorine, turbidity, ionic composition. Membrane selection, recovery targets, and pre-treatment design are determined by data, not assumptions.

🔧

Revamping & AMC

Pervel revamps underperforming RO and UF systems — membrane replacement, pre-treatment upgrade, CIP system addition, and flow optimisation. Annual Maintenance Contracts for preventive servicing also available.

🏆

PSU & Major Client Track Record

IOCL, BHEL, BPCL, HPCL, L&T, BOSCH, Southern Railway, THK — Pervel's filtration systems meet the procurement and quality standards of India's largest public sector and multinational clients.

🌍

Pan-India + International

Projects delivered across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Odisha, and internationally in Kuwait. Mobile teams for multi-site and remote project execution — no site too far.

How We Work

Our 5-Step Delivery Approach

Every filtration project follows a structured delivery process — from the first site visit to post-commissioning support.

1

Site Assessment

Feedwater sampling, quality analysis, flow measurement, and site survey for civil and utility inputs.

2

Process Design

System sizing, membrane/resin selection, recovery calculation, PFD and P&ID development.

3

Fabrication

In-house fabrication of vessels, skids, and assemblies. Procurement of membranes and instruments from approved vendors.

4

Installation

Civil, mechanical, piping, and electrical works. Pre-commissioning checks and system flushing.

5

Commissioning & O&M
